Blog 19: Senior Project and ESLRs
1. What ESLR have you excelled in most in your senior project?
-Effective Learner
2. Please explain why you think you have excelled in this ESLR.
-I have remained consistent with all of my senior project assignments by turning them in on time. I have learned problem solving skills that survivors must know how to do in order to have a better journey through survivorship. I hit a bump in the road with my mentorship in the beginning of the year but managed to work through it and am now actively working at a mentorship, which shows my responsibility for academic performance. During the summer, I worked at a cancer survivor center called, UCAAN, and was able to express my personal creativity by making different flavors of ice cream to help fundraise for the organization.
3. Provide evidence from your senior project to support your claim (evidence is a photo of something you are doing, photo of something you made, etc).
- I am unable to find the photo of me making ice cream at the moment. The computer it is saved on is currently in repair. I will post it once it starts up again.

Blog 18: 2-Hour Meeting Answer #3
1. What is your essential question?
What best defines a successful program for support of cancer survivors?
2. What is your third answer to your essential question (write your third answer in a complete sentence)?
My third answer to my essential question is promoting involvement in the cancer community.
3. What are three details to support or justify your third answer (details are examples or facts)?
- The Relay for Life is the opportunity for cancer survivors and their families to get involved in the cancer community. The Relay for Life raises funds through their program to contribute to cancer research and programs for cancer survivors as well.
-The internet has become the number one go-to resource around the world. Many cancer survivors, especially those not socially comfortable, go to the internet for help. Creating a communication site would be a great way for those tech-savvy survivors to really contribute to the cancer community.
-Volunteering at a hospital is also another way to get involved. I have met many cancer survivor volunteers at my mentorship, City of Hope, over the years. They have told me that it gives their cancer journey a purpose and that it takes their minds off of a lot of things by being productive. It also gives them the opportunity to talk with other cancer patients and survivors so that they have someone to relate to and to prevent them from feeling neglected or alone.

- Proper use of funding defines a successful support program for cancer survivors.
3. What are three details to support or justify your second answer (details are examples or facts)?
- The Susan B. Coleman foundation uses a majority of its funding to running the organization.
- Relay for Life and American Cancer Society uses a majority of their research for cancer research and to make programs available.
- Proper funding is tied to the organization's efficiency. If the funding is not put to use properly, the organization will not function efficiently. The reason an organization is a non-profit it to not make profit.

- Interview 3 with Roxanne Bickham. She is a leader in the Relay for Life and an ambassador for the American Cancer Society.

Blog 10: Senior Project Update
(1) What are you currently doing in your independent component?
I am currently waiting for my volunteer coordinator to get back to me with options for volunteer work that would benefit my senior project.
(2) What is a recent piece of research (article, interview, or audio-visual) that have you reviewed you would say was significant in helping you understand where to go next in your senior project? The piece of research should be something you reviewed in November. Please explain what you learned and where are you going next because of this piece of research.

I learned about the importance of cancer support groups and what a cancer survivor can take from them. I learned that these support groups are really important for the survivor's physical and emotional well-being. It can help to ease stress and provide solutions to problems a survivor may have. I am currently working with my volunteer coordinator and he's looking into the support groups and City of Hope and seeing if i could possibly volunteer for one for my independent component.

are open to
- -can help a survivor figure out what is best for their health by getting advice from someone who has been through what they are going through
- -can be a source of hope and encouragement
- -give you advice on how to communicate with coworkers and children about your experience
- -can lessen fear of recurrence
- can open more doors to alternate methods of cancer support
- can surround the survivor with people who understand them and can give them hope for the future

Blog 9: Working EQ & Possible Answers
(1) What was the working EQ you used during your presentation?
Possible answers include:
- How can a support network provide comfort to cancer patients?
- I am not going to revise my EQ this time. However, I did change my EQ was different for my rough draft. I changed my EQ from "How can we as a community provide comfort to cancer patients?" to my current one which is "How can a support network provide comfort to cancer patients?"
Possible answers include:
- support groups
- organizing a walk to benefit cancer
- fundraising money for cancer survivors

Blog 2: Topic Choice
Content
a. What is your topic and why?:
My topic is Cancer Survivorship. I chose this topic because working with cancer survivors would give me many more opportunities to interact with them as opposed to working with cancer patients. There are many complications and restrictions when working with cancer patients. It was very difficult for me to find a volunteer spot that would allow me to go on a personal level with them. Cancer survivors do not have as many restrictions which gives me more opportunities to be around them.
b. And what do you hope to accomplish this year with this topic (connecting your answer to each of the 4 ESLRs):

My topic is Cancer Survivorship. I chose this topic because working with cancer survivors would give me many more opportunities to interact with them as opposed to working with cancer patients. - iPoly Citizen: I plan to be respectful toward the people that I interview. I plan to meet all of the deadlines that are assigned to me for my senior project. I plan to not only complete assignments, but attempt to go above and beyond. This relates to me improving as a iPoly citizen because I will do more than what is initially expected of me and give this project my all. I will do my best to educate the I-poly community about cancer survivorship and deliver my presentation in a way that people will understand.
- Effective Communicator: I plan to give my full undivided attention to the person I am interviewing. I plan to work on my presentation skills by making sure the information I am giving out is understandable and clear. I also plan to be open to any suggestions or comments I am given that involve my project. I will go into this with an open mind. This will make me more effective as a learner because I listen to suggestions to further enhance my project instead of being closed mind and doing things only my way.
- Effective Learner: I plan to take responsibility for my own work. This means completing my work on my own and not cheating on any assignment. I will use my time wisely in class to enhance the content of my presentation. I will focus on the overall content more than the aesthetics, but I will also make my displays look presentable and interesting. This will make me more effective as a learner because I will not waste time and practice academic honesty. I will also be very productive and efficient in completing the assignment in a certain amount of time.
- Effective User of Technology: I plan to incorporate a power point into my presentation. I plan to learn how to use Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and Photoshop to its fullest potential in order to better organize my project. This will also enhance the aesthetics and make modern technology evident in my presentation. This will make me more effective as a user of technology because it will help my audience's understanding and involve myself with different types of programs that can benefit my presentation.
